Slothrop

Slothrop

Slothrop is the new project of producer Alejandro Duro (Camanchaca, Desierto de Sonora, etc.). With more than 15 years making music, Alejandro has taken an eclectic and restless approach to music, having released pieces as dissimilar as they are convergent, immersing his composition in digital cumbia, old school house, dub techno, indie rock, electro, Andean folklore and more.

From this search for constant change and mutation, he turned his interest to the growing phenomenon of reggaeton. This is how Slothrop was born, a project that fuses the cadence and rhythm of the Caribbean genre with elements of experimental electronic music, ambient and IDM. Differing from a danceable optimism, in Slothrop the rhythm turns its steps towards the most fragile side of emotions and feelings. After having a lot of fun producing dance music with his previous projects, Alejandro invites us to a dance mediated by emotionality and affection.

TNWM-010

Every noon on the 24th of December, his mother would start the preparations for Christmas dinner by playing an old Christmas carol record. Slothrop and his siblings had loved this as children. Over the years the repetition of the ritual had grown tiresome and tiresome. At the same time, they did not want to offend their mother’s tradition.

So one day a brother suggested to Slothrop, who was the only one who knew anything about music, that he should renew the Christmas musical repertoire, preserving the emotions and feelings that the traditional music aroused in their mother, but updating its sound palette and rhythmic cadence.

This short EP condenses Slothrop’s familiar Christmas experiment.
